Zermatt is our base for off-season skiing. We were last there in October 2016 and are returning in October 2019. Zermatt’s glaciers provide skiing 365 days a year. Our training base is on the Theodulgletscher and served by the brand new Klein Matterhorn 3S Cableway and the Plateau Rosa ski lifts. We are guaranteed skiing whatever the weather because the 3s lift and the T-bars can operate when chairlifts could be closed by wind.
The training piste is 1.4km km long with a vertical drop of 300 metres and it gives us great space to train on. There are many pistes open on the glacier so we have lots of opportunities for technical training.
During the first two days we balance ski training with physical training so that the children can adjust to the altitude of the training pistes. Physical training includes trail running, tree-top high-wires general fitness.
We start race training early in the mornings to take advantage of the snow conditions. The cooler weather in October will enable us to keep skiing after lunchtime. The different age groups will break out and focus on their training programme and we’ll be doing a balance of slalom and GS training.
